George Charalambous Ltd is a family owned company that specializes in the roasting and grinding of greek coffee as well as the manufacture and packaging of foodstuffs and snacks.
George Charalambous Ltd was established in 1943. The company specializes in the manufacture and sale of its finely stone-ground, medium roast "Greek-type" coffee. The Charalambous brand holds over 40 percent share in the Cypriot coffee market and the Charalambous name has become synonymous with coffee in Cyprus. We believe that part of our success lies with our well-guarded recipes that are passed on from generation to generation and our extensive knowledge of coffee and of customer needs.
In September 1997 there has been a transition in management and the third generation has taken over following suit in the family tradition. Rigorous efforts in the modernization of the company have been taking place in such areas as packaging, product innovation, marketing and promotional efforts and expansion into other fields of the food industry. The result has been a dramatic 45 percent rise in the market share in Greek-type coffee from around 27 percent in June 1998 to 40 percent (Source: AC Nielsen/AMER retail audit report).
In November 1999 the company has acquired the second largest nuts and dried fruit manufacturer and packer that produces the "Livadiotis" brand. The successful entry to this industry has seen the market share of the said brand climb from 11,6 percent in November 1999 to 18,5 percent today (Source: AC Nielsen/AMER retail audit report).
In August 2000 the company has submitted an application to be listed in the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) and is now in the queue to be examined for listing by the CSE board.
