About
Situated approximately 9 kilometers north of Pafos (Paphos), the monastery of Agios Neophytos Monastery was established by the Cypriot recluse and writer Neophytos during the latter half of the 12th century. It was built in what was once a secluded location at the head of a picturesque valley.
The hermit meticulously carved a cave into the mountainside, known as the โEnkleistraโ, which boasts a remarkable collection of Byzantine frescoes dating from the 12th to the 15th centuries. Additionally, the monastery features a notable ecclesiastical museum, and its later church houses a collection of exquisite Post-Byzantine icons from the 16th century.
