Kakopetria

Kakopetria is situated southwest of the capital Nicosia, nestled at the foothills of the Troodos Mountain, specifically on the northern side of the mountain range.

As a village within the Nicosia district, Kakopetria is approximately 55 kilometers away from both the capital and the second-largest city of Cyprus, Limassol. Perched at an altitude of 667 meters, it holds the distinction of being the highest village in the Solea region. The climate in Kakopetria tends to be dry, with an average annual rainfall of around 648 millimeters. The area is conducive to the cultivation of various crops, including fruit-bearing trees such as apples, pears, plums, apricots, peaches, and cherries, as well as vegetables like potatoes and tomatoes. Additionally, vineyards producing table and wine-making grapes thrive in the village, and a few cereals are also grown. Kakopetria is particularly renowned for the high quality of its apples.

Home to approximately 1300 permanent residents, Kakopetria is rich in vegetation, surrounded by the banks of the Kargotis and Garillis rivers. These two rivers converge within the village, giving rise to the Klarios River, which traverses the Solea Valley before emptying into the Morfou Bay near Pentagia.
