Lania

Situated within the Limassol district, the quaint and traditional village of Lania rests at an elevation of 570 meters on the Troodos mountain range. It is conveniently located just a 20-minute drive from Limassol and serves as a central point between Paphos and Nicosia.

Lania is recognized as one of the grape-growing villages on the island, boasting numerous local wine producers, including those renowned for Commanderia sweet wine. Legend suggests that the village derived its name from Lana, the daughter of Dionysus, the God of Wine, or possibly from the word ‘valania’ (acorn), owing to the abundant growth of oak trees in the region.

The village offers various attractions, such as the historic wine press, the Commandaria Storage Museum, and an ancient olive press. Additionally, visitors can explore numerous art galleries, taverns, and shops. The central focal point of Lania is the church of Panagia Valana, while the chapel of Panagia Valana is situated just outside the village, near a charming picnic area and park.

Lania is celebrated as one of the most picturesque villages in Cyprus, and its welcoming local community extends hospitality to visitors year-round. In May, the village hosts the 'Lanes and Courtyards of Lania' event, during which the women of the village open their yards to visitors, providing an opportunity to glimpse into their homes, meet the residents, and enjoy their warm hospitality.
