The Department of Postal Services provides facilities for collection and transmission of local and overseas mail and delivery of such mail as well as philatelic products and financial services, through some 52 postal outlets and 1.071 postal agencies. It has a communications network, which links all the communities of Cyprus on a daily basis.
The Cyprus Post operates in such a manner so as to continue its profitable way of business and survive in the competitive environment, contributing to the general Cyprus economy. Aiming to achieve the quality standards set by the European Union, i.e. next day delivery, a new sorting centre has been constructed and equipped with an automatic letter sorting system.
Moreover, additional personnel have been employed for strengthening the delivery sector. The new Telecommunications and Postal Services Regulation Law was also enacted incorporating the provisions of the relevant directive of the European Union. In accordance with this Law the Commissioner of Postal Offices and Telecommunications was appointed who, among with his other functions, is responsible for the provision of quality postal services in a healthy competitive environment. The Cyprus Post offers a variety of special services such as 'EMS/Data post courier service', 'Postage Paid Service', 'Business Reply Service', 'Delivery of unaddressed items', 'Official Franking Machine' and others.
