Musical Titans (Pafos)

Musical Titans (Pafos)

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra presents a classical programme with masterpieces of Mozart and Beethoven in three evening concert, which will be given in Pafos, Lemesos and Lefkosia.

Mozartā€™s Symphony no. 39 may well be the least popular of the composerā€™s three last symphonies, but itā€™s no less a masterwork than the other two. Granted, it doesnā€™t have the tragic romanticism of the 40th or the magnificent heroics of the 41st (the Jupiter), with its hallmarks however no less musical but simply more difficult to pinpoint; a work unjustifiably underratedā€¦

As for Beethoven's 5th, itā€™s probably the most well-known piece of western music in the world. The famous four opening notes are so ingrained in people's minds that they've become an icon of classical music! And no wonder - its catchy rhythm is used as the basis for the entire symphony which, by the way, only gets better and better from the start!

The programme includes the works:
K. Roustom: Dabke for string orchestra [only in Nicosia]
W. A. Mozart: Symphony no. 39 in E flat major, K. 543
L. v. Beethoven: Symphony no. 5 in C minor, op. 67
